What's new in our Flemish region in Belgium?
In 2024 animal welfare decided to make a law about breeding dogs & cats: the Breeding Degree.
Regarding puppies who'll be sold from1 July 2025, the parents need to be tested (before breeding) for several diseases (common to the breed), some obligated, some recommended. Also the inbreeding coefficient of the puppies must be calculated before breeding.
If you meet all the requirements, you will receive a Flemish pedigree for the puppies, a kind of quality label. If you don't meet all the requirements, you will only receive a certificate of descent.

The Breeding Decree in Flanders (Belgium) encourages the responsible breeding of healthy pedigree dogs and cats. It focuses on reducing hereditary diseases and maintaining or improving genetic diversity. DNA testing plays an important role in this, both in establishing parentage and within recognized breeding programs for detecting hereditary defects. These breeding programs, called breed records, describe the mandatory and recommended performance tests that must be performed on dogs of the breed before they can be used for breeding. The pedigree serves not only as proof of descent but also as a quality label. The implementation and monitoring of these regulations are the responsibility of recognized pedigree associations and the Flemish Breeding Commission (VFC).
The pedigree association we're working with, is BRCS-Vlaanderen. They deliver us the FCI & Flemish pedigree, if we meet all the requirements. And we do!
We keep breeding with FCI registered dogs, our puppies will always have FCI-pedigree. They also will have the Flemish pedigree, as extra quality label.

We've participated at expositions since 1998. We've bred a lot of champions through the years. But we saw also dogs winning for the wrong reason. Now it's August 2025. We've decided to stop exhibitions. Politics have become a great part of shows: a lot of board members, judges and professional handlers are winning. This is not our way of ethical showing. After 24 years of breeding, we know what we want to expect. Our goal is to breed healthy dogs that correspond to the breed typical characteristics. And for that, we don't need the approval of shows.
